Sleep problems often feel spiritual ("Why can't I just trust God?"), but they're usually a blend of body rhythms, stress, and learned patterns. The Bible treats rest as a gift and a form of trust.
What Scripture offers
A Bible-shaped sleep plan
1) Consistent wake time. Anchor the morning; the night will follow.
2) Caffeine and screens. Cut caffeine earlier; reduce bright screens 60 minutes before bed.
3) Unload the mind. Write (a) worries, (b) one next step, (c) three thanks (Psalm 103:2).
4) Evening prayer. Confess sin, forgive others, and entrust tomorrow to God (Matthew 6:34).
5) If you're awake >20 minutes: get up briefly, read a Psalm quietly, then return to bed.
Stat snapshot
CDC sleep surveillance reports that insufficient sleep varies by state; in 2022 it ranged from about 30% of adults in some states to 46% in others. Many people are fighting the same battle.
Reflection question: What would it look like to practice trust by letting tomorrow stay in God's hands tonight?
Prayer: Father, You neither slumber nor sleep (Psalm 121:4). Help me rest because You are watching. Guard my heart with Your peace and give me the gift of sleep. Amen.
