Depression, Lament, and Hope

Faith does not mean you never feel low. Some of the most faithful prayers in Scripture sound like tears with words.
The Psalms give us language for sadness, heaviness, grief, and discouragement. Jeremiah lamented. David cried out. Even Jesus, in deep sorrow, prayed honestly in Gethsemane.
Biblical hope is not emotional pretending. It is bringing our sorrow into the presence of God and trusting that darkness does not get the final word.
If you feel heavy, you are not a failure. You may need rest, support, counseling, community, medical care, prayer, or all of the above. God can work through many means of care. The valley is real, but so is the Shepherd.
